MONTREAL - SNC-Lavalin has nabbed a new contract to provide conceptual engineering for crude oil facilities at Venezuela's state-owned oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela S.A.

The Montreal-based engineering firm said the agreement was made with a subsidiary of the Venezuelan company, known as PDVSA, but it did not disclose financial details.

Under the deal, SNC will do conceptual engineering for heavy crude oil production, treatment, storage and transport facilities at the Junin 2 North Block, in Venezuela's oil-rich Orinoco belt, north of the Orinoco River.

"This contract highlights SNC-Lavalin's expertise in the design of heavy oil production, processing and handling facilities," SNC's executive vice-president, Jean Beaudoin, said in a release.

"PDVSA has been a key client for SNC-Lavalin for more than 12 years and we are pleased to play a key role in the strategic development of its oil resources," Beaudoin said.

SNC-Lavalin is one of the leading engineering and construction groups in the world. Founded in 1911, it has offices in more than 35 countries and has operations in some 100 countries.
